The Fourth Month of Pregnancy

Today marks 4 months since March 25th, The Annunciation (Spanish version), when we remember the Archangel Gabriel announcing the Mystery of the Incarnation to the Virgin Mary.

After sharing the joy of the birth of Saint John the Baptist and concluding her time of service and accompaniment to her cousin Saint Elizabeth, who was already advanced in years, the Virgin Mary (Spanish version) begins her journey back to Nazareth, where she will reunite with Saint Joseph, to whom she is betrothed in marriage. Sacred Scripture tells us that the Virgin Mary stayed with Saint Elizabeth for about three months before returning home to Nazareth.
Gospel according to Saint Luke 1:56
56 Mary remained with her about three months and then returned to her home.

In this Fourth Month of Pregnancy, we meditate on Mary’s return to what would be her daily life, but with a life growing within her—the Baby Jesus growing and developing day by day in her womb—and knowing that she would have to share with her betrothed, Saint Joseph, what was taking place inside her. We can imagine the journey back, a long and contemplative trip where Mary carried in her heart the anticipation of reuniting with her betrothed. At that time, within the context of the customs of the era, they still had waiting time ahead before fully establishing their home together; they were in the tenth month of a one-year waiting period according to the laws of that time, and Saint Joseph did not yet know the revelation of the miracle occurring in his betrothed’s womb. It can be said that this fourth month is marked by trust, unwavering silence, and hope.

There are 5 months (153 days) left until true Christmas. Let us continue our Way to Christmas together.

A realistic, vertical-format image depicting the Virgin Mary in the fourth month of her pregnancy and her farewell in Ein Karem. Young Mary, with brown hair, prepares to return to Nazareth beside a wooden cart drawn by a large donkey. Beside her, her elderly cousin Saint Elizabeth holds the infant Saint John the Baptist—just one month old—in her arms. Meanwhile, Saint Zechariah helps load provisions and blankets onto the cart. The scene takes place in the stone courtyard of a first-century dwelling, conveying an atmosphere of emotional farewell, peace, and deep family gratitude.
