The Second Month of Pregnancy

  Today makes exactly two months since The Annunciation
(Spanish version), and the young Virgin Mary with her unwavering faith in God, and thinking about what the Archangel Gabriel had told her that day, was about to embark on a long journey at that time, from Nazareth to Ein Karem, where her cousin Saint Elizabeth was who despite her advanced age was about to have her first child. She was entering her eighth month of pregnancy.
  Gospel according to Saint Luke 1:36-37
  36 And behold, Elizabeth, your relative, has also conceived a son in her old age, and this is the sixth month for her who was called barren;
  37 for nothing will be impossible for God."

  The Virgin Mary, with her character of humility, charity and promptness, did not focus on herself despite all that was implied by what the Archangel Gabriel had said to her during The Annunciation. She decided to set out on his journey from Nazareth in Galilee to that mountainous region of Judea; a journey of approximately 144 kilometers and with an ascent of about 300 meters, at that time a trip that lasted days. That trip was made without her betrothed St. Joseph, since they were still serving the waiting time according to the laws and customs of that time that prohibited them from living together before the first year after the marriage commitment.

  The Virgin Mary was not leaving her marriage commitment, she knew that she had to return later to Nazareth and tell her fiancé St. Joseph what was going on inside her womb, the Baby Jesus, the Son of God, was growing up, and she was only leaving for a while to be by her cousin's side. This encounter between the Virgin Mary and St. Elizabeth is very important for the church and it celebrates it every May 31 with the Liturgical Feast of "The Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary" (Spanish version), but this year as it falls on the Sunday after Pentecost (Spanish version), they overlap, giving way to the Solemnity of the Holy Trinity.
